As a part of the FaithWorks grant request to the churchwide offices of the ELCA, a new staff position of youth and young adult outreach pastor has been proposed. Should the funding for such a position become a reality, an ordained person with gifts for developing and expanding youth and young adult ministry in Racine would be called.
While on vacation in August, Rev. Mary Janz and Nancy Smith met an intern from Luther Seminary who has experience working with youth and who comes very highly recommended. They not only heard him preach, but they spent considerable time talking with him and his wife about Racine, FaithWorks, and the potential ministry among young people in our community.
After further conversation with Andy Twiton and with synod and FaithWorks leaders, it was decided to invite Andy and Kristin to Racine in October in order to become better acquainted with our community and church leaders while pursuing the possibility of his being placed in the Greater Milwaukee Synod as a possible candidate for call.
Andy and Kristin will drive from St. Paul Tuesday, October 15, arriving in time for an informal “Meet and Greet” at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Pastor Mary and the Smiths (1530 South Main Street). FaithWorks leaders and all who are interested are invited.
To help for planning purposes, please call the Emmaus church office (262-634-5515) or email Pastor Mary. Andy and Kristin will visit other FaithWorks congregations, the Synod office and the Racine area during their two-day stay.
A second opportunity to meet Andy and Kristin will be during the regular Wednesday night meal at Emmaus at 5:15 p.m. October 16.
